Individual therapy

Individual therapy gives you the opportunity to focus on yourself exclusively, to examine where you came from and learn where you want to go.  I offer a warm, conversational and inclusive space for you to talk about whatever is on your mind and the meaning you make of your experiences.  As I share my thoughts in response to your story, we can react together to whatever feels useful and true to you.

My orientation is primarily psychodynamic, and I integrate ideas and practices from Relational, Interpersonal, and Modern Analytic theories.  Psychodynamic inquiry looks at the stories we tell ourselves based on early experiences in our lives and family of origin relationships.  We can’t always fully remember or articulate some of these experiences because we were so young, but we can feel their effects emotionally.  Together, you and I will sift through those memories, impressions, and the felt senses of your history to fill in the gaps of that story.  We can then consider what from the past works for you now and how to leave behind what is no longer necessary, so that you can thrive more fully in the life and relationships you want.
